Employment
Agriculture, manufacturing, retail businesses, and wholesale trade are the major non-governmental employers in Fayette County. Other industries or businesses in the county include construction, financial, insurance, real estate, and other professional services.

Agriculture
Fayette County has the largest average farm size in the state of Ohio at 442 acres. The majority of farmland has been converted from diversified livestock into large-scale grain production. Soils are some of the most productive in the state, which accounts for over 90% of our 243,000 acres in agricultural production. Midland Acres provides Fayette County with the highest number of horses of any county in Ohio. During a typical breeding season, there are about 1,000 mares, followed later by about 250 foals.

Transportation
Fayette County connects nearly 2,000 acres of fully serviced and zoned industrial property with over 160 miles of interstate and state highways, making transportation easy and efficient for business. The area is also served by Indiana & Ohio railroad, making it an ideal location for rail-based business. Fayette County is served by one county airport located two miles north of the City of Washington Court House on State Rt. 38.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Local School Systems
Students K-12 are served by two public school systems, Miami Trace Schools and Washington Court House City Schools, and one private school, Fayette Christian School. Laurel Oaks, a division of Great Oaks Institute of Technology, offers vocational education for Fayette County students.

Washington Court House City Schools include a kindergarten, four neighborhood elementary schools, a middle school for 6th through 8th grade students, and a high school. The high school has an enrollment of 669 students with a total enrollment of 2,150 students for the entire district.

Miami Trace enrolled a total of 2,649 students in 2003, including a high school enrollment of 859 students. Seven elementary buildings are divided into grade level buildings, while the Junior High serves the 7th and 8th grade students. Miami Trace also offers a pre-school program for younger children and day-care and an after-school program are available in a new facility on the outskirts of Washington Court House.

Fayette Christian School has grown from an elementary school to incorporate K-12 classrooms in recent years, with an enrollment of 152 students, and offers a pre-school program as well.

Higher Education
Post-secondary and continuing education in Fayette County are offered at Southern State Community College and Great Oaks Institute of Technology. Southern State Community College is located in a renovated 19,000-square-foot facility, and features a state-of-the-art computer lab with Internet access, a computerized Learning Resource Center, a Student Center, and faculty and administrative offices. Southern State offers 26 two-year programs to earn an Associates Degree and 4 certificate programs. Great Oaks Institute of Technology offers continuing education courses as well as G.E.D. and other adult learning programs in a professional classroom environment.
